One unique aspect of the school is utilizing the intensive weekend format. At least 1,000 clock hours are needed for the field requirement, and that includes 600 hours in the specialization, which is also needed for students in advanced standing. More specializations are available in the on-campus format, such as mental health and gerontology study paths. Field Requirementsĭespite the difference in discipline, this is equivalent to a Master of Social Work degree and is recognized by the CSWE and state licensure boards. Students can specialize to work with children and families, adult mental health and treatment programs, and community practice and social justice issues. The online degree utilizes the Zoom videoconferencing software for course activity, providing interaction with other students that is similar to the on-campus experience. Case Western Reserve University's Online Master of Science in Social Administration There are no GRE or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores needed to submit when applying for the program. Submission requirements include official transcripts that designate completion of an undergraduate program in the last five years, professional resume, and three letters of reference. Prospective students can choose from three different start dates to enter the program. Technical requirements include having a modern computer system with webcam and access to high-speed internet. There are no requirements for campus visits during the program. In order to qualify for advanced standing, prospective students need to prove their accomplishment of a Bachelor of Social Work at a CSWE-accredited institution, achieving a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and gaining a B or higher for all social work courses.Įxamples of courses that students will pursue in this program include Social Welfare Policy and Services, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and Social Work Research and Program Evaluation. Advanced Standing FormatĪdvanced standing requires 36 credit hours across six semesters of courses and field placement. Specializations exist in working with other adults, children in foster care and/or dealing with behavioral issues, and developing social policy. Students are able to graduate as early as two years after pursuing the advanced standing format, and this can be as little as one year for the advanced standing method. The College of Health Sciences and Professions offers the MSW in a format that can be fully completed online. Ohio University's Online Master of Social Work There is also the potential to combine Master's degrees, such as having a dual degree with the Master of Public Health or Master of City and Regional Planning. On-campus students have an additional ability to have specialization in gerontology, community work, and social justice issues. Holding a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for the advanced standing format of the program. The rest of the degree focuses on field education, concentration selected, and electives for further customization. There are a total of 63 credit hours needed to fulfill the degree requirements, and half the curriculum is dedicated to foundational courses and advanced practice methods. Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores are not required for application submission even if the GPA falls below the recommendation.įull-time students have the ability to complete the program over a two-year time span. The traditional model requires at least 10 semester credits of social sciences regardless of discipline pursued, and there is a recommendation of a 3.0 cumulative GPA. No on-campus requirements are necessary when pursuing the degree, and it is available to all students across the country. Both the traditional program and Advanced Standing Alternative Program are available in an online format, with the latter being available for students that have completed a Bachelor's degree in social work that was accredited by the CSWE. The College of Social Work provides a social work curriculum that helps prospective students become more equipped in the fields of mental health, addiction treatment, and youth services. Ohio State University's Online Master of Social Work The latter is the other institution in the state that provides an online curriculum for their advanced social work education, which is available to all across the country. Cleveland is home to a few of these Master's degree opportunities, including Cleveland State University and Case Western Reserve University. In total, there are 12 different institutions that offer graduate-level education in social work.
